Two women, both with curly hair, both tired of products that weren’t made for them. That’s where Curl Co started. The product worked but it needed a strategy. Three gaps were clear from the start. The brand had no distinct positioning in an already crowded curl care segment. The founders’ expertise, which was the brand’s most credible asset, wasn’t showing up consistently on social. And the product imagery didn’t reflect the quality of what was inside the packaging.
We sat down with the founders, we found two very different people. One had spent years inside a salon, hands in actual curls, solving actual problems. The other thought in numbers, structure, and scale. Two strong instincts, pulling in different directions, with nothing yet bringing them together into one believable brand We began by auditing over 30 curl-first brands, mapping how founders in this space build authority and community. That gave us a clear read on where Curl Co could stand apart. We defined a sharp brand voice and positioning, then built a monthly content strategy anchored entirely in the founders’ personal hair journeys, technical knowledge, and formulation insights, not platform trends. We gave each founder room inside a shared identity rather than smoothing out what made them different, then wrote it all into a complete set of brand guidelines so the clarity would outlast any single campaign.
To close the visual gap, we creative-directed a dimensional, styled product shoot that moved the imagery from basic ecommerce into a lifestyle-driven, founder-led narrative, built for digital campaigns and premium retail. Our biggest insight came from how curls actually get talked about. Compared. Tamed. Misunderstood for years. One question cut through it: isn’t a curl just a beautiful shape worth celebrating? That became the thought behind Curl Co: don’t tame curls, claim them.
We brought it to life through the shapes curls already get compared to in everyday Indian life. Spirals. Jalebis. Telephone wires. Pasta. Noodles. Springs. The same comparisons people made for years, turned from an insult into a celebration.
The result was a brand system that said clearly what Curl Co was, who it was for, and why the founders’ knowledge made it worth trusting. The campaign went on to receive formal industry recognition.
